Make your file cabinets look like

furniture with this DIY file cabinet makeover!

At the design studio, I need file cabinets near my desk.  If not, I file in the floor.

It’s not a good look.

But neither are file cabinets.  They are. So. Ugly.

So I decided to make my file cabinets pretty with this easy diy file cabinet makeover!

It wasn’t hard at all!

I used 4 cabinets but you can do the measurements for one or two and adjust the sizes from the instructions.

The Accomplice built a simple base with 2×4’s and scrap wood, then added the feet.

We used craft wood from Hobby Lobby to cover the existing holes for the handles that came with the cabinets.  We cut them to the size we needed, glued them on then painted.

The Accomplice drilled new holes for the hardware from House of Antique Hardware and added.

Don’t you just love that hardware?

We used the traditional Chippendale bail pulls in a rubbed brass finish for the lower drawers and mixed it with the the gorgeous Lion Head ring pulls on the top drawers.

By the way, HoAH is one of favorite sources for hardware.  I talked about the gorgeous hardware I used in my own master bath remodel from them and just recently I used a beautiful glass handle for a client’s kitchen remodel.  Be sure to check them out!  Anyway, I digress.

So, for the DIY File Cabinet Makeover:

1.  Build the base

2.  Paint the pieces

3.  Cover the holes

4.  Add the hardware

Voila!

Seriously, it was that easy!!

But don’t forget the detailed instructions can be downloaded here:
