Christmas House Tour from Past Years

November 24, 2017 • By

I’m about to drop a bomb friends.

I have a confession.

I’m not a candy cane eating, putting up a Christmas tree, singing Christmas carols, kind of gal.

That’s right – I’m not a huge Christmas fan.

(I know, don’t throw coal at me!)

In fact, I doubt that we will even put up a Christmas tree at Casa de Loco this year.

I have good reasons for my feelings though, stick around and let me explain myself…

I used to own a gift boutique and worked retail for WAY too many years. We had to decorate the entire store in October, wrap until our fingers fell off, smiling all the while, and the glitter – OMG the glitter. It completely did me in. I’m so over the hustle and bustle of the season. While my family will be celebrating this magical day together – it may just be a bit different than most. #sorrynotsorry So, since I don’t have a glistening tree to show off I wanted to go over Casa de Loco’s Christmas tours from past years.

Now before you scroll any further, let me warn you:  I’m not all about  red, green and white for Christmas decorating.  I like it and it’s pretty, but it’s just not me.

So for our main tree, this is what I usually do. A peacock look!

And a proud and beautiful life-sized peacock is nestled in the branches.

As you know, the Casa de Loco is a mid-century home, but in the dining room, I used more traditional pieces.  Some of the touches are modern but dining rooms are all about traditions to me.  So, for my design mind, I like to have an eclectic mix of vintage, antiques and a dash of modern.  I also like a dining room to have a glamorous touch.

I find it beautiful to mix china.  As with home decor, I really feel if you buy what you love, it will always work together.

The table is set with round peacock feather placemats, Spode Woodland china layered with inexpensive plaid salad plates purchased from One King’s Lane.

I used my vintage set of flatware that is wood and gold.  It’s a very old set that came from Thailand.  I really like the global feel that it adds.

The napkins are brand new.  I absolutely love them!  I selected the malachite fabric from Loom Decor because it is the same fabric as an electric lift chair recliner.  I do love all things malachite!

Loom Decor is great, if you need drapes, pillows, napkins or tablecloths, you really need to check them out.

The chargers and the green wine glasses came from a local thrift shop where I found sets of 8 in each.  The chargers were $1 and the wine glasses were $1.99 each.  SCORE!!!!

I added little boxes of dark chocolate with tags to double as place cards. (over-achiever)

The center of the table is filled with greenery, candles, feathers, ornaments, moss balls…everything I had left over.

It’s a little full but eating a little glitter never killed anyone.  So what if it gets on a plate or two, right?

As they say, the devil is in the details….

How about this guy?

He only stops by once a year but we love it when he visits.

This life size Santa is quite old.  I’m not sure how old exactly but he is worn and tattered and perfect.  His face is cherubic with his rosy red cheeks.

How about this awesome pillow?  It was a gift and I absolutely love it!!

It’s plaid and sarcastic at the same time.  What’s not to love?

In keeping with the mid-century feel, I use square wreaths on the front doors that have the best locks thanks a lockersmith I found online, which is easy to do now a days, since they use online marketing for locksmiths and promote their business online.

I told you guys, I’m not very normal with the Christmas decor.

The wreaths are preserved boxwoods.

I added a new piece last year to the porch.  I’ve yet to name her.

I fancied her up with a gorgeous wreath and added berries, feathers, and of course, some glittery pieces.

Rider-Girl’s room is filled with vintage pieces, family pieces, custom made fabrics and leopard.  Lots of leopard.

Selecting the colors for her tree were easy!

Now Moto-Boy’s tree is totally different.

His tree is silver with lot’s of bright colors.

Merry Christmas from this non-Christmas loving gal and my crazy bunch.

Can someone please tell me that I’m not the only one like this?

I can’t be, right?
