How to Transform an Old Chair with Velvet Finishes Paint

I have a confession.

I have a deep love affair.

The BHE doesn’t mind.

I suffer from a deep love of chair affairs.

Seriously.

I love them all – skinny, bulky, modern, vintage…all chairs are beautiful and worthy of a new paint job to bring it back to life.

Today I wanted to share with you all How to Transform an Old Chair with Velvet Finishes Paint.

Have you ever painted upholstery? Robb Restyle painted this fabric chair with Velvet Finishes Baroque and my goodness, isn’t it AH-MAY-ZING?! See the before photos by clicking below…

See those gorgeous blue chairs? Suburban Bitches painted the pair with VF Handsome. Here’s what Tricia had to say…

“The chairs were my grandmother’s and were desperately in need of reupholstering. I just signed up for the tour last week so there was no way that project was getting done in time. I was flummoxed so I read the cordless miter saw reviews and started recreating the chair. What do you do when you don’t have time to shop for new chairs or redo the ones you have? Paint! I used Velvet Finishes in Handsome for this project. Don’t they look great?”

For now, let’s drool together and check out the rest of her summer eclectic home tour…

  1. Alisa says:

Hi. I’m just curious as I have never painted upholstery before. How does the fabric feel after painting? Stiff and hard? And does the paint rub off onto clothes with use? Thanks

    • Kellie Smith says:

Hi Alisa, sometimes painted fabric can feel a little stiff. Simply lightly sand the painted finish with a medium grit sanding block. It will soften the finish! No, it doesn’t come off on clothes. Once the finish is dry, it’s good!
